Activation upgrades

Push-to-open to wave-to-open upgrades

Replace physical activation with a deliberate wave where the existing door system supports it. Keep the scope grounded in compatibility and usability.

Change the interaction. Check the whole opening.

A push plate and a touchless sensor may perform a similar activation role, but they are not necessarily interchangeable. Power, output type, mounting depth, weather exposure and device settings differ. The existing operator must respond correctly, and the new sensing field must suit the approach without unwanted activation from passing traffic.

Assessment priorities

Activation upgrades: review priorities

  • Existing plate size, backbox and wall finish
  • Wired or wireless activation arrangement
  • Sensor power and compatible relay output
  • Placement, detection field and clear user instructions

Scoping push-to-open to wave-to-open upgrades

Assess both sides of the opening and decide whether one or more controls should change. The work may include wiring, mounting adaptations, operator adjustments and signage. Test the result from the intended approach and confirm that ordinary passing traffic does not unintentionally activate the door.

Your activation upgrades brief

Count all current controls, including secondary plates or remote activation. Tell us if users are carrying items, pushing carts or approaching from an angle, and identify exterior exposure or cleaning practices that could influence selection.

Will the existing wiring be reusable?

It may be, but a powered sensor can need a different wiring arrangement from a simple push plate. The existing wiring and device requirements must be checked.

From a push to a wave

Assess the activation interface and usable sensing field before substituting a touchless device for a push plate.
