Automatic door operators

Plan the equipment that physically opens the door, with activation and hardware selected around the opening rather than in isolation.

The operator does the lifting.

An operator must suit the door and its application. A swing-door project depends on door weight and width, handing, header space, arm geometry, mounting strength and environmental loads. Existing sliding-door equipment calls for its own specialist assessment; a touchless switch is not a substitute for the correct drive and safety system.

Assessment priorities

Powered opening: review priorities

  • Door dimensions, handing and available mounting space
  • Frame reinforcement and electrical supply
  • Wind exposure, vestibules and pressure differences
  • Activation, safety sensing and locking coordination

Scoping automatic door operators

The assessment establishes an appropriate operator arrangement and identifies supporting work. The proposal should describe controls, power responsibilities, operating modes, documentation and verification at handover. Product-specific setup follows the selected manufacturer’s instructions and applicable requirements.

Your powered opening brief

Include whether this is a new opening or an existing door, and whether it is a single leaf or a pair. A heavy exterior door, restricted header or existing overhead closer can materially affect the available options.

Is a low-energy operator enough for any entrance?

No. Traffic, door geometry, environment, activation method and applicable safety requirements determine the suitable arrangement.
